Get A Grip - a novel
My name is Jeremy Schmitt and I’m excited to tell you about my manuscript, Get A Grip. I’m a Coach, a husband, and a loving father of two exuberant kids. My goal in life is to teach people how to live a happier life. My story demonstrates what it could be like if we can learn to accept the challenges life throws our way.
I have written a 115,257 worded commercial fiction about a young girl's life after the tragic death of her mother. Mallory has been sent by the court to temporarily live with a stranger, her dad.
Tommy just found out he is the father of a 10 year old little girl who is coming to live with him. He is a former Navy SEAL and understands what it takes to be strong, both inside and out. Along with a spunky local gymnastics coach named Kate and new teammates. They work together to help Mallory climb out of despair and onto her feet. The title represents a combination of gymnastics and the strong mentality you need to adopt to overcome the odds.
I’ve been an athlete since I first learned to walk and I’ve been coaching since I was 13, which was about 25 years ago. The only time I wasn’t coaching, I was in college learning how to be better writer. I have an English degree with a concentration in creative writing and a philosophy minor. I am excited to have finally combined the two most important parts of who I am as a person into my first manuscript. This story is only the first in a series that could go for several years. My coaching experience spans across snowboarding, kayaking, baseball, and soccer, but for most of my life it has been gymnastics. My wife and owned a gymnastics gym for almost ten years and I draw upon this experience to craft the setting of the story.
The story means a lot to me, but the reason I wrote it is even more important. I want to help people to see that there are better ways to deal with life when it knocks us down. I want people to join these characters as they learn how to become physically, emotionally, and mentally stronger. I hope the journey will help them to find inspiration to become better in their own lives.
